Govt Approved Abortion Centre
The Gandhi Nursing Home Abortion Center performs pregnancy terminations by removing or expelling embryos or fetuses. “Spontaneous abortion” or miscarriage refers to an abortion that happens on its own without any help and happens in between 30% and 40% of pregnancies. “Induced miscarriage” is a term used less frequently to describe intentional steps taken to end a pregnancy. In general, an induced abortion is referred to by the unmodified word abortion.
What is Abortion?
Abortion is the medical procedure used to terminate a pregnancy by removing or expelling the embryo or fetus. It can be classified into two main categories:
1. Spontaneous Abortion (Miscarriage):
- Definition: A miscarriage, or spontaneous abortion, occurs naturally without medical intervention. It happens in approximately 30% to 40% of pregnancies and is often due to factors such as chromosomal abnormalities or health conditions.
- Occurrence: This type of abortion is not induced and happens without external assistance.
2. Induced Abortion:
- Definition: An induced abortion is a deliberate procedure to end a pregnancy. It involves medical or surgical methods to remove or expel the embryo or fetus.
- Terminology: While “induced miscarriage” is a term used less frequently, the term “abortion” is commonly used to refer to intentional pregnancy termination.
Types of Induced Abortion
At Gandhi Nursing Home, we offer various methods for induced abortion, tailored to each individual’s needs and stage of pregnancy:
1. Medication Abortion (Abortion Pill):
- Process: This method involves taking medication to induce a miscarriage. It is typically used up to 10 weeks into the pregnancy.
- Steps: It usually involves two types of medication taken at different times—one to block the hormone necessary for pregnancy and another to expel the embryo or fetus.
2. Aspiration or Suction Curettage:
- Process: This surgical procedure uses a suction device to remove the contents of the uterus. It is typically performed in the first trimester.
- Procedure: It involves inserting a thin tube through the cervix into the uterus to gently suction out the pregnancy tissue.
3. Dilation and Curettage (D&C):
- Process: A D&C is a surgical procedure used to scrape the lining of the uterus and remove the pregnancy tissue. It can be performed in the first or early second trimester.
- Procedure: This method involves dilating the cervix and using surgical instruments to remove the tissue from the uterus.
4. Dilation and Evacuation (D&E):
- Process: A D&E is a procedure used in the second trimester, involving dilation of the cervix and the use of surgical instruments to remove the fetus and placenta.
- Procedure: It combines suction with other tools to evacuate the contents of the uterus.
